Why are people poor?
People are poor because either they are born into a an poor family or some way or another they have put themselves into a poverty state. I believe it all depends on what choices people make when choosing a living and if they worked hard in school or not. Possessing a high school diploma is a necessary component for evolving in any kind of career, but if this is all a person is holding on to when there are higher levels of education such as associates, bachelors, masters, PhD degrees. For example say "Jenny" dreams of a career in the medical field, but comes from a very low income family. Her parents do not have enough money to send her to medical school. Hard work in school and clubs earns Jenny a scholarship and grants. Her hard work and determination pay off and she uses student financial aid to help her complete college and ends up with the career she dreamed of. This example shows that although a person may come from a not so wealthy family you can still persue a career like this one. Sometimes it doesn't work out like this, being an average student with average grades and little money makes it even more difficult to persue a high paying career.

$700 billion BAILOUT

According to Wikipedia.com, the $700 billion bailout plan was issued on Oct.1,2008. This plan was created for the United States Secretary of Treasury to purchase distressed assets, especially mortgage-backed securities from the nations banks of Wall Street. This act was proposed by President Bush and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. Also the government spent $85 billion to bailout major insurance company AIG. So basically the nations banks were allowing people to receive loans and mortgages who they knew that could not afford the payments. The banks did not take responsibility for their actions and our tax money had to bail them out is that fair?, I don't think so, not at all.

The Presidential Elect

Hard work, pleasing the people, and months of campainging to become the next President of the United States has recently resulted in the victory of the democratic candidate Barack Obama. I don't think his victory is a good thing. Not only does Obama support and practice socialism he also does not support christian morals like pro-life (no abortions )and he is for gay marriage. I think our country in headed for distruction. Also he plans to tax citizens with higher incomes. Why should successful hardworking people have to basically give their hard earned money to the slackers who believe the government should take care of them. That brings up another issue, the government is not supposed to take care of you in that sense. The government is there to keep people and situations on track and enforce laws, not to baby America. Also new proposals have already been passed such as marijuana being leagal for medical and leisure use I don't think this is a good choice on behalf of the government.

the mates of state show
Thursday night my sister Ashlea, her friend Sarah, my friend Hannah and I, all went to the Mates of State show at Northern. A group of college students called First-Aid Productions put the show together. When we got into the theatre or place they were playing we all bought American Apparel band shirts which were really cute. It was a few minutes still before the first opening band came on stage. Then they did, they were called This is Deer Country it was a guy and a girl duo from Houghton and I really enjoyed their music. They sounded like another band I like, Eisley. Their music was super chill and the girls voice was really pretty and soothing. After they played a few songs the crowd applauded and they left the stage. you could tell every one's anticipation was growing for the feature band(mates of state), but there was still on more opening band. I can't really remember what they were called but it was a mix between screamo and ska it was actually pretty good. The singer was hilarious and a great performer. We also had a spot right in front of the speaker and barely a foot from the stage it was great. After numbers of sound checks and adjustments Mates of State started their first song Fraud in the 80s one after another they just kept playing my favorites. In the end it was a great show! And I really enjoyed it.

negative campaigning
Due to the presidential election nearing closer, the candidates are becoming more and more competitive. Recently television ads regarding the candidates campaigns have been popping up regularly. Ads for the NRA ending with "defeat Obama" have made their appearance. And both McCain and Obama campaigns ads always announce something negative about the other candidate's plan of action and glamorize what they have planned for their future term, end with.."I'm _________ and I approve this message". I don't think this kind of campaigning is necessarily good..or bad I'm sort of on the fence in this situation.

my weekend

This weekend: Friday night was pretty chill i didn't do much. On Saturday my mom, my sisters Ashlea and Bailey and my brother Jared and I all drove to Iron Mountain, but we also went the longer way to go and see little towns on the way since my brother lives in Colorado Springs and he hadn't been to these little towns before. So we ended up going through Crystal Falls, MI Alpha, MI and Florence, WI . It was a lot of fun but lots of driving. Once we got to Iron Mountain we went and checked in to our hotel, then went to my grandparent's house and visited for a while. The next morning we had continental breakfast and soon checked out and went to have lunch with my family. After we drove around and did a little shopping. Soon it was about time for my brother to fly out we didn't get to take him to the airport my grandma and grandpa did because we had to get on the road to drive back to Ishpeming before dark. And my brother made his way back to Colorado.

Presidential Canidates

Barack Obama (D) John McCain (R)The 2008 election is nearing towards us, with John McCain and running mate Sarah Palin for the Republican party ,and Barack Obama and his running mate Joe Biden this election is thought to be historical. Personally if I had to choose and vote I would probably vote for the republican party because I'm pro-life and I support many of the Republican standards. Also I do not believe Obama has enough experience and is ready to lead this country. Also I have watched Sarah Palin and listen to her speeches and she has a great view on how this country should be led.

Hurricanes

Natural disasters are devastating, hurricanes are deadly and cause a lot of loss and trauma. Every year many people are caught in the path of a
hurricane, and end up losing their homes, valuables, and sometimes loved ones, but they still manage to keep hope. I lived in Florida for almost five years and while living there I experience two hurricanes and tropical storms. These storms were not powerful enough to be deadly like for instance hurricane Katrina but they still left me a bit shaken. Although my experiences were not as extreme I remember every one's panic. Resident and neighbors preparing for the worse, stocking up on food and battery supply and boarding up windows. I feel very lucky that nothing worse had happened. As for other hurricane sufferers I give them superb sympathy. And for the recent Galveston hurricane victims I hope they can adapt in this difficult time.

Homecoming
Homecoming week is an important time of the school year because it initiates the new school year. Students are able to show a lot of school spirit and just have fun. It also of course involves sports, the Homecoming football game definitely is a major part. Students get to deck out in blue and white and cheer on the Hematites.

Another sport related homecoming event is powder puff it is different and fun plus many people get involved. The spirit days are probably my favorite aspect of homecoming week, because the spirit days are creative and many people dress up.

This weekend my sister Ashlea and I went to the movies on Friday and saw The House Bunny. It was a lot of fun and the movie was funny and enjoyable. On Saturday morning I slept in of course that was relaxing. Later that night was kind of boring so I just decided to watch Juno for the eighth time or so :] On Sunday I went to Marquette and went to church, then went to lunch with my family. After we went to Getz's and I bought a really cute and comfy vest it was a little expensive but I decided to get it with the remaining birthday money I had. So all together it was a pretty enjoyable weekend.

What I would do if I was President.
The White House
If I were to be the President of the United States, I would make sure that the economy would have a tremendous comeback. Stop foreign drilling for oil/fuel and start drilling in the U.S which would most likely bring gas prices down. I would also lower taxes, so middle class Americans wouldn't have to struggle to meet their everyday needs. I would also be pro-life because i believe people should show more responsibility in that area, because infants should have rights. And I would set up a plan to support high schools students so that if they are planning to attend college they will either have it free or pay a small amount depending on family
